Items of clothing really get used to their limits in this house. Things I bought big for Jack, have been worn until too small for him and then passed on to his little brother for the same to happen all over again. Often they are then passed on to a little cousin who luckily (just like Sam) treasures the kudos of "big boy" clothes, with fibres that are soft and pre-worn and hems and name labels that speak of a history they enjoy hearing.
Sometimes two boys wear is all they can take and these, more fragile items, might end up as rags or cleaning cloths, patches on other clothes or even in a patchwork. Last weekend a very much loved pair of swimming trunks, which have been appearing at pools and beaches for close to 8 years, finally reached the point of no return...not suitable for passing on, they were put in for a final wash and an uncertain future. Both my boys were sad to see them going and asked me to make something with the fabric for them to keep. Which is why, with the addition of an equally well loved shirt (worn by my hubby and me over the last 20 years) they ended up as lavender sachets to put under pillows, to help us sleep...
The floral pillow is for me and while it wasn't re-purposed from swimming trunks or a shirt it did use some of the lovely fabric I received from Julie as part of my Snail Mail Swap and was backed with a linen napkin I dyed dark green some time ago. The lavender was from here and I have plenty left so I think a few more pillows will be appearing over the next week. Lots of sweet smelling dreams and some happy re-cycling!
