As this little fellow turned out rather cute and a pair will now be appearing to decorate this years Easter tree, I have, as requested, made a tutorial. Hope it all makes sense, let me know if it causes any confusion and I'd love to see your cute chicks too!
Step One : Cut out 2 circles of felt (I used an old felted blanket) approx 3" across.
Step Two : Cut out one circle of a sheer fabric approx 2.5" across.
Step Three : Cut out one circle of silky fabric using the smaller template again.
Step Four : Cut out a beak shape and a tail shape from felt.
Step Five : Cut two lengths of yarn approx 8" long, thread a bead on to each and knot in place half way along.
Step Six : Position beak, tail, legs and another 8" piece of yarn (to act as hanger) onto one of the larger circles of felt.
Step Seven : Place other circle of felt on top and then layer the two smaller circles of fabric together and fold in half to make a wing.
Step Eight : Stitch the wing in place, onto the top piece of felt, along the straight edge.
Step Nine : Carefully place the top layer of felt over the bottom one and sandwich the tail etc between. Stitch all around the edge.
Step Ten : Sew on a button for an eye and cut into fabric of wing to create feathers.
All finished!
As always I would encourage you to experiment with fabrics, colours, number of layers etc...have a play and have fun!
