Wow it feels so long since I sat here and did this, never has one family spent so much time doing so little and boy has it been fun! Weather and sickness has kept us pretty close to home, I drove for the first time in two weeks yesterday and Jack didn't get out of PJ's for a week (I did make him put clean ones on a couple of times in between!) but despite that (or maybe because of it?) we have had the loveliest of holidays and at different times this has been dubbed the 'Best Christmas Ever' by all of us.
No Christmas is complete for me without a large pile of books under the tree and this year I was gifted the most wonderful selection by different members of my family. One benefit of feeling too weak to do too much was the joy of feeling completely guilt free as I sat by the fire and read away to my hearts content.
Romancing the Ordinary: A Year of Simple Splendour
In between reviving cups of tea and the odd chocolate or two for purely medical reasons, I have begun to delve into my new library and a theme has begun to emerge, one I am happy to welcome further into my life and one I hope to pursue over the coming year.
A Handmade Life: In Search of Simplicity
You may have spotted by now that the word 'Simple' crops up a number of times in the images above and even in the books that don't have it in the title, simplicity is inherent in every page. So with no plans of doing so I have found my companion for 2011 and I think we are going to sit very comfortably together this year. As I enter the next decade of my life (I hit 40 just over a week from now) I feel ready to embrace even more the simple pleasures that I have been discovering over the last few years and somehow it seems to fit quite nicely with the quote I mentioned in my New Year post. Simplicity seems a good thing to hope for over the next twelve months.... maybe I should just add one last book to the pile, what do you think?
