Today I am going to take part in Tuesdays through....the window organised by Julie at SWEDISH HOUSE and at the same time show you a couple of completed projects I am rather pleased with.....
The first is this lace panel I sewed for our french windows inspired by the ones I made for our bathroom earlier in the year. It is made from a collection of vintage lace tablecloths and bits and pieces I had in my collection (there is half a pillowcase in there somewhere!) and I love the way it allows glimpses of outside through the lace. The shadows and light are constantly changing creating a wonderfully mesmerising display to sit and enjoy. It makes me so happy to find ways to use these lovely old pieces, most bought for only a few pence at charity shops. For too long I hoarded them in my cupboards but now it gives me joy to share their beauty.
The second is what you can see through the window - I mentioned it in passing back at the end of the holidays but I never got around to showing you properly. It is the patio I built using reclaimed tiles we saved when we renovated the garage and turned it into our kitchen. They are a local make that is still made and were originally laid on a layer of ash, over a slate 'damp-proof course'. I have been planning this project for at least three years and once I got started it was great fun - a bit like doing a giant jigsaw puzzle. Complete with a camp fire area, we now have a lovely walled area to enjoy on summer nights while the frogs in the pond serenade us with their croaks.
I hope you have enjoyed the view with me today, if you haven't already please pop over and see what else you can glimpse through the windows gathered at SWEDISH HOUSE...
