Back in January when I wrote the post about 'The Wonderful Weekend Book' a few people mentioned the book Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy and that I should give it a try. Never one to turn down a good excuse for buying a book I immediately ordered it and I have been working my way through it day by day ever since. Some days I feel no resonance at all, others seem to have been written with me and my life totally in mind. One of the tasks It encouraged you to do was to make list of '10 nice things to do for myself' . Over time as I manage to make my 10 nice things happen I would like to share them here with you. I hinted at some of the items in my list before Easter, some are nearly ready to reveal and others may take some time. Today I want to start with number 10 on the list, not because I have done it but because I want to document the process as well as the end results and I hope you will enjoy seeing how it goes....
Item 10 - Make our bedroom into a sanctuary.
Our Bedroom was one of the first rooms we tackled when we moved in ten years ago.
Over the years it has slowly evolved but others parts of the house and garden have always taken priority (the more practical rooms, the bits people see and the rooms that the boys use) and our room has sort of got left behind.
Some bits I love - our antique welsh wood bed for example.
We found it in many bits spread throughout a reclamation yard and used wedding gift money to buy it.
Lots of the furniture has a history - my bedside table was a sewing box made by my grandfather.
But here is the view that spoils it all and the area I want to tackle to ensure that feeling of a sanctuary, where it is a pleasure to spend time.
The ill fitting and very annoying formica doors will have to go. We are hoping a visit to the same reclamation yard that resulted in the bed might turn up some replacements and I can feel another pelmet of vintage linens coming on to hang along the top. I hope to get started with the stitching this week and hope you will enjoy seeing it as it comes together. What do you think?
