My brooch for Kate is made and sent, but I can't show you pictures until she has received it. My presents for a very special little crafty girl are made and wrapped but I can't show you those till next week. My veg box of local organic veggies is ordered and expected on friday, so I will tell you more when I get them. A tutorial for making a reusable shopping bag from an old pillowcase is requested and will be delivered as soon as I can. Its one of those funny days where a lot seems to have been going on but I am not allowed to show you any of it! The answer I have decided is to show you some of the things I managed to knit over Christmas, that otherwise might get overlooked in the excitement of a new year.
Firstly, the eagle eyed might have spotted in my New Year mosaic, some wrist warmers I finished just in time for Christmas day. One pair each, the second pair bound off at 11.30am on Christmas eve, really only just made in time.
They were knitted using the hand dyed, hand spun merino wool I started spinning at the guild meeting back in October. I used the same pattern as I had for my own pair, just adjusting the size to fit the two boys. They were very gratefully received and have been fantastic in the snow - either inside snow mittens for extra warmth when the temperature hit -16C or by themselves for a bit of extra freedom when playing outside.
My other Christmas knit (well Boxing day really!) was a gnomey hat for me. I have been promising to do one since I made them for the boys and one for my Husband. I wanted to belong to the gnomey family but other things kept being higher priority. Well, finally, on Boxing day, I managed to sit down and knit without interruption and completed a hat for me.
I wanted something a bit more girly, so dispensed with the pocket and knitted a wonderful big flower instead. I used the baby alpaca yarn I had dyed in september and it is so soft and gorgeous to wear.
Don't forget that there is still time to leave a comment on this post and be entered in the draw for a brooch of your own. New commenters are very welcome too - I am just as grateful to them for coming to visit and it is always nice to 'meet' new friends. Good Luck!
