This time of year is kind of busy on the birthday front. Mine is next week, followed two days later by my sister-in-law ( we started off best friends 25 years ago and became family when I married her big brother!) , my little crafty friend is next, two days after that and then a day later my littlest one will be eight.
A tough time of year on the financial side of things, I wanted a gift for my sister/friend that showed what she meant to me but was light on the purse ( and with one small change in mind, light on the planet would be even better!). Inspired by my Christmas decoration and a basket of scraps I have made her this:
By layering a few more fabrics on the front piece and replacing the back with a pin, I have made her a brooch to glamorise any outfit or bag. The button in the centre is one I found in a thrifted button box and I thought the colour set the whole thing off perfectly. The fabrics are a collection of scraps I have collected over the years and one or two might bring back memories of days we have shared. I am very pleased with the end results and I think it ticks all the boxes for what I hope to achieve. Hope she likes it too!
Now for the big THANK YOU! I have been overwhelmed by the generous welcome I have received from Blogland. In the just over three months I have been posting I have had so much encouragement and inspiration and felt part of a wonderful, genuine, creative family. The comments I receive never fail to make me smile and brighten my day. Yesterday I received, astoundingly to me, my 500th comment and I feel I should mark that moment in some special way. I wish I could make each and every one of you something to show my appreciation but will just have to hope you believe it's the thought that counts! Instead I have decided to make two more brooches like that above, as a thank you, one for the person who made that 500th comment - Kate England at Marmalade Moon (it seems very appropriate as you have been there leaving lovely comments since the beginning) and another one for someone who leaves me a comment on this post before wednesday 13th January 12 midnight GMT ( my birthday!). I might try a random number generator to pick but if that is too complicated my little one can choose from a gnome hat! Good luck everybody!
Ps Kate - let me know the colour you would like and your snail mail address and I'll get that Thank you gift in the post as soon as the snow melts!
Comments now closed - will announce the winner 14/1/2010!
