Many years ago, for my eighteenth birthday, my Husband bought me a spinning wheel. After a brief period of use, due to lack of space, and once the children arrived, time, it was put into storage. Earlier this year it was rediscovered and I am having so much fun finding out what I can do with it in combination with a bit of hand dyed fleece and some knitting needles!
Inspired, by the Twisted Sisters sock workbook, I had a go with my dyes to produce this:
Then spun it once to create these:
Ply-ed together they looked like this:
Finally, using a pattern from my favourite book, Weekend knitting by Melanie Falick I knitted these wrist warmers. The flower embellishments were made from a chain of cast -on stitches with a vintage button attaching the ends.
Tonight I'm off to a meeting, at The Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers local group. Spinning wheel under my arm and a pile of rovings ready to spin, I'm excited to see what everyone is doing and what useful tips I can pick up along with a cup of tea and a cake!
