Quite often on a walk, or on a beach, or even at home, if the children don't know what to do with themselves and I need a bit of breathing space, we do a rainbow treasure hunt. I send them off to hunt and search for items they can find, which reflect each colour of the rainbow. It's an amazing thing to me that wherever you are, there are always treasures to find in every hue, sometimes leaves, sometimes stones, sometimes flowers and although it is such a simple idea, it often sparks our imaginations and leads to wonderful collections and creations (I have some photos from past hunts I will post sometime).
Each morning when I get up, before the rest of the world encroaches, I spend a little time by myself in the garden, letting out the chickens and seeing what there is to feel joyful for today. This morning I found my discoveries making a rainbow and decided to share it here with you.
Red: luscious berries on the tree.
Orange: Pumpkin skin on the compost from the soup I made yesterday.
Yellow: Courgettes still growing on the bush.
Green: Flowers just budding on the ivy.
Blue: A little watering can, sitting in the flowerbed.
Indigo: The beautiful dusty colour on the leaves of my winter cabbages.
Violet: Is this cheating? Not a violet but a viola?
I hope this fills your day with as much pleasure as it did mine - can you find a rainbow today?
